Episode #8-1: "Odyssey" September 18, 2008
Directed By: Kevin Fair
Guest Stars: Alaina Huffman (Black Canary), Alan Ritchson (Aquaman), Phil Morris (John Jones/Martian Manhunter)
UPDATED 7/11/08: Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello dropped a big bomb in his latest "Ausiello TV" vodcast: Chloe says yes to Jimmy's proposal, setting the stage for a possible wedding later this season. Sorry, we don't make this stuff up...
- The CW said on screen that the premiere is October 2, so we're really confused about the premiere date now.
UPDATED 7/7/08: TV Guide has revealed the premiere date: September 18.
UPDATED 7/3/08: Chances are good for Tom Welling fans that we will see an unshaven Clark as the story picks up a few months after the previous finale.
UPDATED 7/2/08: TV Guide has answered several of the questions about who might be saving Clark, and some new tidbits:
- Clark's rescuers will be none other than the Justice League. Expect to see not only Justin Hartley as the Green Arrow; Alan Ritchson will be returning as Aquaman, Alaina Huffman is back as the Black Canary, and Phil Morris makes his return as John Jones, the Martian Manhunter.
- The magazine also reveals what Clark's surprise is for Lois: He's taking the job at the Daily Planet, right acros from her desk. "This season's theme is 'double identities'," executive producer Kelly Souders told TV Guide. "It's about the Superman identity emerging as Clark Kent tries to maintain a normal life — or the appearance of a normal life."
- "The cameraderie as they work side-by-side that everyone loves from the DC Comics and all the Superman lore is going to come to fruition this year," Souders continues. "The two of them are thrown together in some unfortunate situations for Clark. She becomes a little bit of an obstacle to him saving the world, when he's on a deadline."
UPDATED 6/27/08: The "Researcher," "Scientist," and "Guard" roles are involved with Chloe's storyline.
- When Clark returns to Metropolis, he'll have a big surprise for Lois.
UPDATED 6/25/08: The new season begins several months after the events of the Season 7 finale.
- Casting is currently underway for "Kat," a young, eager assistant for Tess, who also makes her first appearance in this episode; and "Nikolai," a man who works on a boat with Clark near the Arctic. Roles also now being cast include a Researcher, a Scientist, and a Guard.
- Clark is brought home by some possibly-surprising rescuers.
- Oliver Queen (Justin Hartley) returns in this episode.
UPDATED 6/23/08: Title Posted.
Episode #8-2: "Plastique" September 25, 2008
Written By: Holly Henderson & Don Whitehead
Directed By: Rick Rosenthal
UPDATED 7/9/08: Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello has revealed that we may have a Chloe/Doomsday/Jimmy love triangle brewing. Also, regarding Lois and Clark at the Daily Planet: "There will be a lot more comedy this season, courtesy of those new adventures Lois and Clark will be embarking on."
UPDATED 7/7/08: Bette has a connection to Level 33.1 or something very much like it.
- Roles now being cast, in addition to the role of Bette, include the following: Security Agent, Young Cop, Medic, Tommy, Clerk, and two CSI's.
UPDATED 7/4/08: This episode will explore Clark's first day on his new job and his teaming with Lois.
UPDATED 7/3/08: "Plastique" does indeed involve Bette Sans Souci, the character from the DC Comics universe. In this version she is a "15 year old street kid" who is injured in an explosion, and Chloe asks her to move in. (Thanks to S.A.M. for that tip!)
- Contrary to some reports that Chloe will be serving time for a while... in actuality, Chloe will no longer be incarcerated by the time this episode happens.
- Justin Hartley (Oliver) and Aaron Ashmore (Jimmy) do not appear in this episode.
UPDATED 7/2/08: This episode will explore Clark's first day on his new job and his teaming with Lois.
- The character of paramedic Davis Bloom makes his first appearance in this episode, and he interacts primarily with Chloe.
UPDATED 7/1/08: Title Posted. - Plastique is a DC Comics villain from Firestorm and Captain Atom comics.
Episode #8-3: "Toxic" October 2, 2008
UPDATED 7/14/08: Roles now being cast for "Toxic" include a Reporter, Marcos, Guard, Angelica, Megan, and Police Officer.
- Oliver is poisoned and collapses at a fundraiser tying in with the release of the Warrior Angel movie.
- Chloe and Clark attend the fundraiser together.
- Title Posted. - Despite the title, Britney Spears has nothing to do with this episode.
Episode #8-4: Title Unknown October 9, 2008
UPDATED 7/16/08: An update, thanks to S.A.M.: A super-powered character named "Melissa" has her eyes on Clark. They kiss and he tries to resist. Originally casting notices for this episode called for "Maxima," a character from the DC Comics universe of characters, but apparently this has been changed... we're assuming for either legal or creative reasons.
More Spoilers For Smallville Season 8!
UPDATED 6/20/08: Tess has the last name of "Mercer," and Davis Bloome (formerly thought to be a bartender) will now be a paramedic, as revealed in an official press release. The roles will be played by Sam Witwer and Cassidy Freeman.
UPDATED 6/4/08: Lex will have disappeared and will be presumed dead.
- Don't be surprised if Ollie is back as early as the season premiere (perhaps to break Chloe out?)
UPDATED 6/3/08: Justin Hartley (Oliver Queen/The Green Arrow) will be returning to Smallville as a series regular.
- Kristin Kreuk will be appearing in "6 or 7 episodes" with the exact number yet to be determined.
- Erica Durance is contracted for her usual amount of 12-13 episodes as Lois; however, this number can be increased to more if Lois is needed for more.
UPDATED 5/24/08: Laura Vandervoort (Kara) will not be a series regular in Season 8. However, she may return for a few episodes.
UPDATED 5/15/08: It is likely that Lex will simply be "missing" as the new season begins. In his place the new character "Tess" will be looking over his assets. Producers hope to get Michael Rosenbaum back for guest shots; whether or not they will be successful at getting him remains to be seen.
- If Laura Vandervoort does not return as a series regular, it is likely that Kara will remain in the Phantom Zone until she can be rescued.
- Phil Morris may be returning as the Martian Manhunter in Season 8, and James Marsters has expressed interest in more appearances as Brainiac.
- TV Guide is reporting that, since his new pilot Austin Golden Hour did not go to series, Justin Hartley could be returning in Season 8 as Green Arrow.
UPDATED 5/14/08: TV Guide is now reporting that Allison Mack will indeed be back next year for all 22 episodes of the season.
Tom Welling, Aaron Ashmore, and Erica Durance are all returning for Season 8, and Kristin Kreuk will be back for at least a few episodes, but not all of them.
Laura Vandervoort, who was at one time considered a "lock" for next season, is conspicuously not on the Season 8 cast list...
UPDATED 5/8/08: Details on the new characters for Season 8!
UPDATED 5/1/08: Michael Rosenbaum will not be returning as a series regular for Season 8.
Two new characters have been announced for Season 8:
Doomsday: In season eight, Clark will face his ultimate challenge with the appearance of the legendary, unstoppable destroyer Doomsday, who appears on “Smallville” for the first time. As comic book fans know, Doomsday is notorious for being the only character in the DC Comics universe to have killed Superman.
Female villain: Doomsday won’t be Clark’s only nemesis in the upcoming season. The executive producers are tight-lipped about a new female villain they will be introducing, but they can say she will be familiar to many fans and will set her sights on Clark in ways Lex never could. Intelligent, brilliantly manipulative, and dangerously sinister, our gorgeous new villain has one more weapon in her arsenal: Her mutual attraction with Clark may prove to be as deadly as kryptonite for him.
For some details on some more currently-circulating Smallville rumors that aren't necessarily spoilers,
i like the idea of shaveless Clark!!! and the league..and lex missing...and Lana only in a few episodes..i wonder what will happen with her after all...
clark will not be shaveless, he will have a beard this season
and yeah the justice league are gonna save clark, thats gonna be awesome,
Lex will probably be in 2 episodes maximum as a special guest to show what happened. kara wont be in this season much i dont know why, clark must save her,
and clark and lois both work at the daily planet, theres loads of info there, i cant wait
also whats with the airing date first they say september 18 then they say october 2, i hope its the one in september,
oh wait i was confused yeah your right, he will be shaveless, so he will have a beard.
yeah justice league heroes are gonna be wicked.
i want it to air faster.. lol..
I dont get why kara wont be in this season much, apparently shes not even on the cast list, in season 7 they said she was gonna be in basically all the episodes for season 8, but they might delay clark in saving her from the phantom zone.
yeah she was one of the main characters in the beginning of Season 7 then she drifted away and they showed less and less of her towards the end, she was in the finale, but that wasn't her, it was milton fine shapeshifting as her..
UPDATED 7/25/08: Kristin Kreuk (Lana) will be back in Season 8 for five episodes. It is said that her episodes will begin during November sweeps.
UPDATED 6/20/08: Tess has the last name of "Mercer," and Davis Bloome (formerly thought to be a bartender) will now be a paramedic, as revealed in an official press release. The roles will be played by Sam Witwer and Cassidy Freeman.
so Lana will be there for only 5 eps..i knew that she wouldn't be there for the whole season but i expected that she would be in more than 5 episodes...
