Video Game gets a second chance

"Prison Break" may be done on TV, but the video game is getting a second chance.

Before the series was killed by Fox this year at the end of its fourth season, the Prison Break video game was canceled last fall by Brash Entertainment, the now defunct publisher of games based on movie and TV licenses.

But Slovenia-based developer Zootfly, which was producing the game for Brash, decided to fund the project to completion itself. It has just signed a deal with publisher Deep Silver, part of Britain-based Koch Media, to release Prison Break this fall.

"The cancellation was a blessing in disguise because we got to spend more time on the key gameplay features and get rid of the half-baked ideas Brash management pushed on us," Zootfly CEO Bostjan Troha said on the phone from Slovenia.

Releasing a licensed video game when the property on which it's based no longer exists is a difficult business proposition, but Troha said he's counting on the show's loyal fan base, many of whom protested its death, to support the title. The CEO said he's still working with Fox to secure some of the show's actors to do voice work.

Prison Break and Where the Wild Things Are, which is set for release this fall but is still searching for a publisher, are the last of Brash's games far enough along in production that they'll eventually see the light of day.

Prison Break Game Coming To Xbox 360, PS3 And PC

Fans of the TV series will now be able to re-live the exploits that occurred during the series of Prison Break. The real catcher is that players will not be handling the likes of engineering/planning mastermind, Michael Scofield.

Gary Rosenfeld, Senior Vice President of New Media for Fox Licensing commented in the press release, saying…

"Who doesn’t love the thrill of a prison break? It’s a great basis for any video game, but even better when utilizing the intricate storyline and colorful characters created for the Fox series,"

Yes, the characters from the series will make an appearance in the game, including Wentworth Miller’s Michael Scofield character. Players, however, will be in charge of controlling Company agent Tom Paxton, who goes to Fox River State Penitentiary to find out why Scofield tried robbing the bank in the first place. So far it sounds like it has an interesting premise, especially given that players will get a chance to cross paths with some of the show’s characters.

Zootfly is at the development helm and Deep Silver will be the publisher. No release dates were confirmed but be sure to stay tuned in with Blend Games for further updates regarding Prison Break: The Game.

Prison Break Game Picked Up By Deep Silver

Gallery Links (Click On Images To Enlarge)

We weren't so sure about that game based on the hit Fox show Prison Break after Brash parted ways with it, but now it looks like we may see more of Wentworth Miller and company outside of his possible role in the BioShock film. Deep Silver announced today that they would be publishing the game for consoles and PC. Zootfly will be developing the title, which has no confirmed release date as of yet.

It's hard to say what to expect at this point, but I think it's safe to say the game will mostly appeal to fans of the show. Who knows, I might find that prison breaks are my new favorite thing ever after playing it. You can check out some screens in the gallery, and we'll keep you updated as we find out more about it, but are you interested in this?

Deep Silver to publish "Prison Break" video game

Deep Silver signs license agreement with Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising for adaptation of hit TV series on PC and consoles

Koch Media, a leading producer and distributor of digital entertainment products, announced the signing of a license agreement with Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising (Fox Licensing) regarding the world-wide publication rights to a video game based on the award-winning TV series "Prison Break". "Prison Break", developed by Zootfly, will be released by the games label Deep Silver for next gen consoles and PC.

"The ingenious plots and fast action of “Prison Break” thrill TV audiences around the world, and provide the ideal basis for a video game," says Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Koch Media. "The game will offer the same blend of action and suspense as the show, appealing to fans of the series as well as video gamers."

“Who doesn’t love the thrill of a prison break? It’s a great basis for any video game, but even better when utilizing the intricate storyline and colorful characters created for the Fox series," says Gary Rosenfeld, Senior Vice President of New Media for Fox Licensing.

The protagonist of the "Prison Break" game is Company agent Tom Paxton. He is sent to the Fox River State Penitentiary to find out why Michael Scofield (the hero of the TV series), a man without a previous criminal record, became a bank robber. The storyline runs parallel to the first season of "Prison Break": Paxton encounters several characters from the series and experiences key events from his own perspective.

The action adventure "Prison Break" has all the markings of the award-winning TV series: a compelling story, distinct characters, and fast-paced action. Using diverse climbing and stealth skills, the protagonist Paxton explores numerous locations of the series, all brought to life with great attention to detail.

Prison Break game arriving March 26th: Plot will run alongside first season

Koch drop by today to confirm that Prison Break: The Conspiracy will arrive on March 26th for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 (in Europe, at least).

The new action-adventure game is of course based on the hit US television series, players assuming the role of agent Tom Paxton, sent to the Fox River State Penitentiary in order to find out why Michael Scofield became a bank robber.

The plot will follow the first series of the TV smash, and in the game Paxton will meet many of the characters familiar to fans of the series.

Prison Break Screens Breaking Out

Developer Zootfly has released a bunch of new screenshots of the TV turn video game, Prison Break.
We first reported back in August about Prison break but not a whole lot of new information has turned up since then.

The game had been in development for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for release earlier this year, but was canceled. Development was then restarted when the game’s developer, Zootfly, found a new publisher in Deep Silver.

These new screens are a good reassurance that the title is still alive and kicking. With all of the actors confirmed to be returning to voice act their respective characters, it’s a title all fans should keep on their radar for 2010.   Keep the faith alive Prison Break fans!

Prison Break Impressions

We got a first look at the Prison Break game, which runs in parallel to the first season of the show.

Prison Break fans should attest that the best seasons of the show came early on while the concept was fresh and the characters were...well, breaking out of prison. So it's good news that the upcoming Prison Break game will run in parallel to the first season of the show and add to the existing story arc while incorporating stealth and action gameplay. We got to see it for the first time at GamesCom Cologne and wanted to see what the Scofield brothers were up to, so we went deep undercover to find out.

You'll play as Tom Paxton, an agent of the mysterious "Company" who's sent in to the Fox River State Penitentiary to find out more about Michael Scofield. Scofield has come to the prison under mysterious circumstances--he performed a bank robbery, but as a brilliant structural engineer, he had no reason to do so. It's therefore your job to find out what's really going on while digging deeper into the Company's real motives.

Our demo started as Paxton and Michael Scofield boarded the same bus heading for the prison. Paxton is busy taking voice notes of everything that's going on because he's dubious about the Company and its ulterior motives. Michael, meanwhile, immediately rendezvous with his brother, who he's really there to break out.

The game contains many different types of gameplay. When you get grabbed, a quick-time event is initiated where you have to press the right buttons to escape. There's also fighting--first against T-Bag and then training with C-Note using weights and a punching bag. The prison has an underground "Fight Club," supported by the guards, and you can enter it and take on tougher enemies, earning currency to buy new tattoos for your character.

Supporting all this is the need to build up relationships in the prison so that you can find out what the Scofield brothers are up to and finish your assignment. Nearly all of the characters in the game are voiced by the original actors, with the notable exception of Dr. Sara Tancredi. The character likenesses are excellent, and developer ZootFly has built an engine that's great at doing characters.

Prison Break will be released on the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 in 2010. We hope to bring you more on the game in the coming months.

I can't wait for this game....it looks awesome! Very Happy

They've got the characters looking so good! Check out Lincoln Burrows in this pic!!! They've perfected Dominic's features!

I can't wait to see what the other characters look like!
Its great that the actors have agreed to do the voice overs, although it's a shame that they didn't get Sarah Wayne Callies...I wonder why she was excluded! Confused

Bring on March...hmmm it's my birthday in March...may have to add this to my pressie list! Wink
